Dress code: Since this a sacred space and active Basilica, visitors are required dress respectfully when visiting. Therefore anyone wearing clothing that is profane or disrespectful will be turned away. Under no circumstances will anyone wearing a costume of any type be permitted to take the tour.

What can I expect from the Catacombs Tour by Candlelight NYC?

This is an 80-minute deep dive into a story of early New York Immigration history told through the lens of the early Catholics. From the Gangs of New York to Fine Dining, Wine, and Music Culture everyone will find a connection point in this rich narrative of how New York was shaped. The Catacombs themselves are the largest example of underground tombs in the entire United States where very prominent Catholic Families and Clergy rest peacefully beneath the Old Cathedral.

Where is the Catacombs’ NYC Tour located?

The Catacombs by Candlelight takes place at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in Nolita/Little Italy. This Church was the original St. Patrick’s Cathedral but is NOT to be confused with St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Midtown on 5th Avenue. Please DO NOT go to the Midtown Cathedral in error. Check-in at 266 Mulberry Street NY NY 10012

Yes, since the tour takes place in an active church, tours may be canceled or rescheduled without prior notice to accommodate funerals, weddings, or other such ceremonies. Please remain aware of your email and Fever notifications for more information.

We advise everyone to show up for check-in at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled tour. Please do your best not to be late. If you are going to be late we encourage you to call us and let us know your estimated time of arrival so you can be checked in and brought to your group as quickly as possible..

Does the experience take place in an indoor or outdoor venue?

This tour is both Outdoors and Indoors so please check the weather ahead of time and dress accordingly. If rain is in the forecast please bring umbrellas and/or rain gear. The first half of the tour will be outside in the two walled cemeteries that are normally off-limits to the public. The second half of the tour will be indoors where the Church and Catacombs are climate controlled.
